The Wild A Story by Chloe

I live in Africa and my name is Chloe. Today I was going up to the well to fill up the water bucket, when I suddenly saw something big and grey, wriggling around in the bush, I slowly but quietly started to walk up to the bush. When I got up to this thing in the bush I realised it was an elephant, a baby elephant. “Hello little one, don’t run.” The elephant surprisingly turned around and started slowly and carefully walking up to me. He started to sniff me and then started to rub his head against me.

“Hey where did you come from then, mister?” I took my new buddy home and named him Joe. As I walked in the door there was mum, “oh and whose this then?” I replied “well I found him in the bush and named him Joe”. Suddenly two letters got pushed under the door. I went and picked up the letters and opened them.

The first one said:

BABY ELPHANT MISSING

2 YEARS OLD, HE IS VERY CHEEKY

AND HE LOVES ALL KINDS OF FUIRT

PLEASE FIND HIM.

REPLY TO THE CIRCUS

REWARD: £1, 900

The second letter said: There is a missing elephant and he belongs to the circus, DO NOT GIVE HIM BACK TO THEM! The elephant ran away because his mum was killed! So let him go in the wild. From Susan

“Mum what shall I do?” but she had already gone to put the washing away. So I chose myself tonight I would set him free into him wild. It was getting later by the minute, in about five minutes it would be bed time. I just could not wait. I got into bed and turned off my lamp and waited. About two hours later I was stepping out into the outside world. I set off quite quickly, because I had heard some kind of footsteps coming up to me. We were getting there slowly, in about 20 minutes we would be there.

Joe started sniffing the air; I think he could smell other elephants. SNIFF, we were about to enter the forest and find loads of elephant to greet Joe. Closer and closer, we were finally three, no elephant noticed us but one die, she slowly walked up to se and went SNIFF she liked us and Joe thought to himself “She is my new mummy”. I had a play with the other baby elephants and then set off home. When I got home mum was in the kitchen.

“Where have you been?” I replied “well I took that baby elephant to where he belongs in the wild”. Mum then replied “I am so proud of you” and from that day on she let me visit them every day and she came to

'Dear Kate,

Thank you for coming to our school and giving up your free time it really interested me and inspired me. It was nice adopting an elephant'

'Dear Kate,
Thank you for coming to our school and telling Swan Class all about elephants. We were very interested in your information. We have adopted one of the elephants called Mafunyane. Are your monkeys still being cheeky?'

'Dear Kate,
I really enjoyed your extremely interesting talk about elephants and the names of all the elephants and your camp at Botswana. I really would like to go to Botswana and I've learned to respect elephants a lot more than I did'
