Bermuda September 2005
At the end of September I made my way to a conference in the states via Bermuda. My great friend Sam lives there and had won a 10km race to enable me to get from New York to Bermuda and back. I had a fantastic time spending precious time with a friend and seeing where she lives. She was able to introduce me to her life and her research on the coral reefs. It was pure magic. Whilst I was out there we thought it would be a good opportunity to give a talk, as Bermuda has been the largest supporter of the calendars through Sam's tireless campaigning and there had been great interest in elephants and the project. The talk went really well and I was surprised by the number of South Africans that came out of the woodwork and Bermudians who had been touched by Africa's beauty during holidays there. It was a great evening and the word about the research, elephants and Africa has been spread that little bit further.
EMA conference, Tulsa, Oklahoma October 2004
This was the first international conference I had attended and the first paper to be presented. The paper was entitled 'The Release of captive elephants into the Okavango Delta, Botswana' and was well received.
