This is our latest video of a wild male elephant out in the bush. He was enjoying the fruits from a Real Fan Palm [Hyphaene petersiana] on a nice and warm winters afternoon. Males enjoy showing off their strength by shaking the trees violently in order to knock the fruits down which would otherwise be out of reach. There is actually a close association between the fan palm and the elephant. This trees fruit requires being eaten by the elephant before it will germinate. This will place the seed many kilometers from the parent tree aiding its dispersal.
