March- November 2001 Scientific Officer on expeditions in Karongwe Game Reserve South Africa for Global Vision International (GVI). Working closely with the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere and the University of Natal, Durban as well as the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa.

July 1999 - September 2000: Lion Research, Okavango Delta Botswana. Investigating the ecology and reproductive physiology of the lion in the area. My focus for the year was to survey and monitor the endo-parasites of one pride.

May 1998 - July 1998: Elephant Research in Mavoradonha Wilderness area Zimbabwe, for Loki Osborn, Cambridge University.

February 1998 - May 1998: Lion Research, Okavango Delta Botswana

August 1997 - December 1997: Samango monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops spp.) research, Cape Vidal, RSA, for the University of Natal. This involved habituation of a troop of monkeys in the dense dune forest of the coast and making daily observations on their behaviour, as well as studying the plant ecosystem of the forest habitat that they utilised. Whilst there I also assisted the Marine Officer with surveys on leatherback and loggerhead turtles; and the Natal Sharks board investigate whale shark deaths on the stretch of coastline.

June 1997 - August 1997: Hippo (Hippopotamus amphibious) research, for HOORC (Harry Oppenheimer Okavango Research Centre), in the Okavango Delta. I carried out the initial work for a long term project on the population dynamics of the hippo on a section of the Boro River and how they changed with the coming and going of the seasonal floodwater.

February - June 1997: Desert Ecology Research for the Desert Ecological Research Centre, Namibia. Looking at fauna and flora communities in the ecosystems in the Namib Desert, reading the weather for the Namibian metrological station, library work, and instigation of ecotourism working with the local community. I also wrote a field guide on the beetles found in the area to assist field identification.

July-October 1995: Volunteer for Dr Clutton-Brock of Cambridge University, looking at the social behaviour of the Meerkat (Suricata suricatta) in the Kalahari Desert.
